Like millions of others, I've experienced a series of awakening experiences. These experiences are ineffable, in a sense, because any discussion merely touches the peripheries of how they could be experienced. Some feel threatened by the mere mention of them; others are inspired or excited. Neither response has any impact on the experience for the one who has experienced it.
One person suggested that I was breaking the ‘rules’ of Buddhism by supporting others in guiding them to these types of awarenesses, for a fee. If there are are rules to Buddhism (or any other religion), it is fortunate that I am not bound by them; I do not consider myself religious.
What I do notice is that when I engage with people on this process, this process of clearing residual traumas from the body, they often find themselves face to face with pure, unfiltered consciousness. The traumatic patterns are revealed and resolved, but that is secondary. They are just a catalyst
"In working with trauma for over three decades, I have come to the conclusion that human beings are born with an innate capacity to triumph over trauma. I believe not only that trauma is curable, but that the healing process can be a catalyst for profound awakening—a portal opening to emotional and genuine spiritual transformation." Peter Levine.
It is in releasing patterns that no longer serve that this experience or framework called 'awakening' or 'enlightenment' often shows up. Some of what is revealed can be rationalized; some cannot.
The inexplicable always expands the field of awareness, for as long as we let it remain unexplained. What was not possible yesterday is possible now; what was unfathomable five minutes ago is now a visceral truth. Most of us truncate the process of growth by adopting someone else's story for what we experienced.
Trauma is a call to awakening. As soon as it is transformed from an obstacle into a catalyst, the healing becomes inevitable. Because nothing can stop the gathering momentum.
Clients often get off of the floor, and wobble to a chair. I watch their eyes blaze, as they shake their hands in disbelief. 'So much energy is running through my system.' Sometimes there are tears; it is usually overwhelming at the beginning. 'Don't be afraid. This is the life force flowing,' I remind them. 'Enjoy it. Hopefully, you're going to get more and more comfortable with it over time.'
Some become addicted to the flow of the life force, and anything that dims or restricts it becomes sacrilege. Others just need a glimpse and they are satiated. It is enough to know that there are deeper currents under the surface.
